He shook his head. "I apologize but I must confine us to this room and my office." He gestured to the rock garden in the corner of the room. "Please feel free to use this."

She looked at the rock garden for a moment, and then glanced out the window. "Mind if I bring some inside?"

Ran was still in the room concentrating. The tranquil silence that loomed throughout the room was satisfying and made her happy. She could finally think in peace and focus on the main task at hand. She began to feel like she got the hang of it. The energy inside of her was twisting and flowing around, or so she thought. She continued doing what she thought was the right thing, all while wearing a smile to show that she was content.

Medina smirked as she walked to the window. Calling on her mana, she shifted the earth. She raised her hands, and moved them with the earth as it formed a wave and rushed through the window. Dirt now covered most of the floor. She grinned as she apologized. "Opps."

"My dear Medina, I have lived in a forest in Brazil for over 200 years. I don't care about a little dirt." He could feel the change in ki almost immediately when Ran had achieved a sense of balance. "Excuse me for a moment." He walked into his office and saw Ran smiling. "Very good. Now, please return to the classroom so we may continue the lesson."

Ran walked out of the office into the classroom, leaving the bonsai behind. She was ready to begin the next part of the lesson. She could only wonder what would follow a lesson that involved taking care of a tree for focus. She saw Medina outside with some dirt and wondered what had happened.

"Show me the epitome of your abilities. I want to see the extent of your power so that I know what you are capable of." He turned to Ran. "Now as for you, show me how well you can control ki flow as I had Medina do before."

Xexame was ready to do as his teacher had requested. He realized that combining both the flame and ice attributes together was a difficult feat, which was evident through the difficulty of him mastering his fire element alone. He was good at light and fire to the point where he could merge those two elements and use them simultaneously, but what about fire and ice, something that many believed to be opposites of each other? No matter what though, it was a new challenge that he was presented with, and Xexame never refused a challenge or backed down. He stood up tall to his feet and began to concentrate like he did with his fire. First, he decided to use his fire and light simultaneously in order to get the elemental flow of his body working. In an instant, a ball of fire appeared in his right hand while the luminescence of bright light shone from his left hand. He combined them by placing the palms of both hands together. Nothing much happened except the forming of a hotter and brighter flame. Now came the fire and ice. He started from the beginning, standing tall and straight. Taking a deep breath, he made ice and attempted to make flames. Unfortunately, the hand that he had planned to make ice in had instead froze over. The cold didn't bother him much but he was slightly pissed that he couldn't do it.

Damnit! I'm surprised that didn't work. That's never failed with light and fire. I guess fire and ice will take more work. Nothing less is to be expected of elements that are basically the opposite of each other. And now I've got my hand frozen. I should remember this as a recoil for later just in case I get in a battle.

"So I see. Well then, please rest and recover and then you will be able to show to me your abilites." He turned to Xexame. "Even the greatest warriors must start with simple meditation. I knew you would not be able to complete that task because it had taken me quite a long time. After years of constant meditation and practice, I had achieved the desired results. You very well may have talent, but that takes no precedence in my class. Now please, show me your prowess with ki flow."

Rorak rose from his spot next to the bonsai tree. He had learned how Bartimus treated, which is why he came in the first place. Not wanting to disturb his lesson further, he quietly made his way, once again, around the edge of the dojo. Once at the door, he turned and bowed to Bartimus, then walked toward his own classroom so he could start his weapons class.

Ran watched and awaited further instructions. She saw one male student trying to do something with his energy while the other student, Medina, was performing some kind of technique or skill with the dirt. All that was left now was to figure out what she should do once she was given an instruction.

He noticed Ran standing by. "On second thought, hold it. Ran had the courtesy to come to my class on time and so I shall give her my attention." He walked over to Ran and held his arms out to the side. "Show me how well you can control your ki flow. Hit me."

Ran was a bit confused. Her order was to attack the teacher. This was the first time that she had been instructed to cause harm to an adult that was considered an ally. An order was an order however, and she knew that the only way to get stronger was to do as she was told and attack him. She dropped her sword and clenched her fist tight. She decided that since this was a Martial Arts class, the best way to attack was to use the fist. She punched outward at the teacher, aiming for his chest. "Okay here it goes."

He took the full impact of it in the chest, again not flinching. "Not a bad punch, but where was the ki? If you had used your ki, when that hit touched me I would have been thrown back a few feet. Focus all your energy to your fist and release it in one explosive attack. Like this." He walked over to a particulary large rock which lay peacefully in his rock garden and stood before it, focusing his ki. He lifted his front leg and drew his fist back, slamming his foot on the ground and twisting his fist as it moved with blinding speed toward the boulder. There was an audible crack as his knuckles made contact with the rock, but nothing happened at first. He stood back to admire what would happen next. Suddenly, the back of the boulder burst outward in thousands of shards which flew outward in a spiral, leaving the rest of the rock no more than a hollow shell. He cracked his knuckles. "That was something you can easily learn; it doesn't take much ki control."

Ran felt disappointed. She had put all she had into that punch for the sake of at least putting a scratch on the teacher, but it was for nothing. She wondered if she should try again and attack while his guard was lowered, but she thought that such a maneuver would be a selfish one. She decided to ask first. "May I try again sensei? I think this next punch will be better." She clenched her fist to prepare. As she did so, she began to build up ki. The second he approved her attack, she would unleash a blow that would hopefully wound him.

His approval was all that she needed as she shot forth a punch at the teacher. She felt a little uneasy doing this, but she wanted to prove to herself that she was making some kind of improvement. She could almost hear the wind blowing past her fist and it went to strike the teacher in the face, almost.

Again, he took the blow. He lowered his head and took the brunt of the attack on his forehead. He slid back a few inches and blinked. "That was much better. If I didn't know how to defend myself, that could have snapped my neck."

Ran was a little surprised. She had never seen anyone take an attack to their actual forehead without wearing any type of armor. Any type of doubt that she had for her teacher instantly vanished as she saw him do that. She stared at his head to check for bruises or marks, but she could find none. This was a pretty amazing guy.
