He smiled. "I can smell your amazement from here. I wouldn't suggest trying something like that until you are completely sure that you can, but I can certainly teach you how to take direct blows without letting them affect you. It's commonly referred to as the 'iron form' in martial arts, where you tighten all the muscles within your body. This nullifies pain and also makes it so that there are no vibrations that could jostle your brain when you are hit in the head."

Meanwhile, Xexame was in the background meditating, trying to concentrate and control his ki flow so that he could merge his ice element and fire element together. Although when compared to Light and Fire, merging ice and fire didn't seem so difficult. Xexame said nothing as he concentrated and focused. He could feel the energy changing in his body, but it didn't seem to be enough.

"Xexame, through focus you can achieve the state of balance required to master fire and ice together. It will not happen overnight, so do not expect to make too much progress. Moreover, do NOT allow for fluctuations in your emotions while practicing. If you succeed in some small way, don't allow your emotions to change at all. If the two elements sense weakness in you they will overwhelm you before trying to destroy each other."

This was no good, he was having difficulty keeping up with everyone at the same time. He whispered the words "stop what you're doing and return to me" and used his oxygen manipulation to carry those words to each and every student of his. He himself stopped what he was doing and walked over to a tatami mat, sitting down cross-legedly.

Ran heard the words of the teacher flow through her ears. She walked over to the teacher and held her head down in order to await the request of the teacher. It seemed like he wanted to tell the class something important, and it was always good to learn about something new from the class, especially if it could mean becoming stronger.

"Please. Sit." He motioned toward the tatami mats scattered around the classroom in a semi-circle. "This will be an important part of class."

Shang entered the classroom quietly and sat down. He knew he was late but he hoped that it wouldn't cause too much trouble. He looked around the room, it seemed that he had been right to sit down on the tatami mats. They weren't the most comfortable thing to sit on but he knew that was the way of martial arts. Never too comfortable, always alert. He sat and waited for the teacher to proceed with the class.

Xexame took his time as he walked over with his hands in his pockets. He was trying to focus, but the teacher's call completely broke his concentration. As he drew closer to the mats on the floor, he made a face of disdain, realizing that he had to now sit on the floor. He then realized that a new student was present. He smirked a bit, scoffing out a slight laugh. He realized that by now class was probably almost over, yet a new student had just arrived. The thought of it was a bit funny. Of course, being Xexame, he had to comment on the situation.

"So, who's the new kid?"

"Who indeed." He shot a glance toward Shang and sighed. "Well it's good to know we're all here at least. Now, I've noticed this class is extremely diverse, and that we have not been aquainted with one another. This is merely a session in which we will get to know each other. You may ask me any question you would like."

Ran sat there quietly. She had no questions that came to mind at the moment, and she didn't mind that a new person was there. It was nothing that she preferred to question. She decided to sit there. As she sat, she looked around at the other students to see if any of them were going to ask a question of some kind.

Xexame raised his hand, still looking at the person that recently came in. Xexame was pretty relaxed and it was a habit of his to not really care about other opinions besides his own or think about what another person may think about his comments. With that said, making outbursts or saying things that others would think twice about saying is how Xexame operated. Before he was even called on, he gave his answer.

"My question still stands. Anybody know who the new kid is? I'm just wonderin'."

Shang sighed. 'What an annoying guy', he thought. 'All I had wanted to do is join the class quietly and without fuss but this guy just wouldn't drop the subject.' He asked the teacher, "Permission to answer his question, Sensei?"

Shang sighed. His sensei wasn't going to let it go either, huh. "My name is Shang Lin. I am a wandering Independent and decided to enroll at this school to touch up on my skills. I apologize for coming in late but seeing as your class was already in session when I joined this school, it was inevitable. So please receive my apology, Sensei-" He turned to Xexame, "-and my fellow classmates."

"Well then it seems that punctuality is one of those skills of yours that needs touching up." His jaw clenched. For some reason, he felt animosity toward this Shang character even having only met him. "Why did you decide to join my class, Shang?"

Shang's eyes widened slightly from seeing his sensei's unconscious display of animosity. "I came from a village that was known for its prowess in martial arts. I am one of the best in that village but I want to become even stronger. I have wandered around for about a year now and have heard of this famous school many times. It has a supposedly great martial arts class. I came here to experience your teachings for myself, Sensei."

"Well then you should know that this is a class of warriors who are prodigies within their own villages. Here, you're a big fish in a big pond, and you're on the bottom of the food chain. This is not only an institute for teaching, but a bastion of everything good. What do you know about Suzaku?"

IC: Xexame watched the teacher and the late student talk to each other. In a way, he thought that having the teacher acknowledge his lateness was his fault but it couldn't be helped. It was a comment that Xexame had to make. He drifted out of the class for a minute in his mind and thought about random things. He didn't know what to do after this and then he heard about his teacher mention Suzaku. Xexame thought about going to the Akamori to find some clues about Suzaku. Maybe he could learn something about the group.

Shang sighed inwardly. He was rapidly starting to wish that he were to not have come to this school. All he wanted was to expand his knowledge but his teacher was treating him like a mortal enemy. It was extremely annoying, he had come to learn martial arts, not to learn how to deal with being interrogated. Despite his inner thoughts, his face portrayed calmness and he politely answered,"I do not know much about Suzaku, Sensei. I apologize but all I know about that organization is that they are supposedly evildoers who are the mortal enemies of all the people here at Sentou Gakuin. I have encountered a couple of grunts before but that is about it."

OOC: I realize it is "a small fish in a big pond" but I bastardized that saying because there are many adept warriors from around the world competing to be the best in the school. Big fish in a big pond.

Bartimaeus had the innate animalistic ability to sense emotions. He could feel irritation seeping from every pore in Shang's body. And yet, Shang remained passive. He smiled. "You pass my first test. The warrior who cannot control his emotions is nothing but a berserker who should be used as cannon fodder. Rage does nothing but cloud the mind of the martial artist and does not in fact grant additional strength. Concentration does. This is why I asked you to speak about Suzaku. Suzaku members base their strength on the rage inherent within them. Therefore, no matter what their intentions may be, it is always possible for us to succeed."
