Description: This is a primary and basic rule of the Death Note. "This note will not take effect unless the writer has the subject's face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected." This rule is the rule that decides whether the other techniques that come from having the Death Note can be used. If the owner and user of the Death Note does not know a person's name and a person's face, a person cannot be affected by any of the Death Note's techniques. Both components are needed. One is not enough meaning that the user, or in this case Light, will have to learn the person's name and keep their face in mind.

Name: "If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the subject's name, it will happen. Also, after writing the cause of death, the details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds."

Description: With this technique, the user of the Death Note must write exactly what happens to a person that he wishes to target. This attack is powerful but cannot occur if the move written within the book is not capable due physical limitations of the affected person or the user meaning that impossible feats cannot become possible. This can be used as an attack or a counterattack because a specific cause of attack is not necessary but if words like: Accident, or Mess-up is written as the cause, the opponent will lose 290 attacks as a result. Of course, the more specific the effect is, the better.

Name: "If the time of death is written within 40
seconds after writing the cause of death as a heart attack, the time of
death can be manipulated, and the time can go into effect within 40
seconds after writing the name."

Description: With this rule of the notebook, Light is capable of manipulating the exact time that something, more specifically an attack, will occur based on the actions that his opponent may take. By writing in the book whether the opponent will evade, defend, or attack in a certain amount of time(in this case post number) he may be able to attack the opponent with a surprise attack. This move isn't ordinary because it doesn't act as a third attack during the turn that it strikes because it was used in posts previously, but it is actually an attack that simply needed time to use. If Light writes in the book that the person defends and they do, he can attack them. The same goes for attacking or evading. The only problem is that he may guess the attack wrong in which case if he does, nothing happens at all. The opponent can still defend or evade or even counter this attack if they remember too, but they may leave them open during that turn.

Description: This technique is an ability that always takes effect but does not play any active role in battles. This rule simply keeps the shinigami that is apart of the holder of the Death Note from doing anything to prevent the attacks of the note's victims. With this, someone that may have some kind of control over Light's shinigami can't use him to change the effects of what Light does with the book.

Name: "One page taken from the Death Note, or even a fragment of the page, contains the full effects of the note.
Also, the instrument to write with can be anything. (e.g. cosmetics, blood,
etc) as long as it can write directly onto the note and remains as
legible letters."

Description: This is a rule of the book that is used as a guide in battle. It has no true effects against the opponent and it isn't activated or negated by something. This rule simply states that the user of the notebook does not need the entire physical notebook itself but a simply piece of the notebook is all that is needed. Also, anything that can make legible letters or characters can be used to write with. A pen or pencil isn't completely necessary.

Name: "You may lend the Death Note to another person while maintaining its ownership.
The borrower of the Death Note will not be followed by a god of death.

The god of death always remains with the owner of the Death Note."

Description: This ability cannot be used during battle but can only be used during a general RP. Basically, this rule allows the holder of the Death Note to enable another person to borrow it. The person that allowed the book to be loaned is still in possession and if they still hold pieces of the book they can still attack, but the new holder will not be aided by a shinigami and therefore cannot receive any benefits from having one.
