Sylphied Estrahl [Finshed]
Name: Sylphied Estrahl "Sylph"
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Race: Half-Elf
Alliance: Sentou Gakuin
Homeland: Sylph originates from a land about a month's walking journey west from the acadamy of Sentou Gakuin, clear to other side of the continent. Its border is the west portion of the great sea, extending roughly two hundred square miles out to the east, and about 100 to the north and south, a land known as Virgil. This world is mostly inhabited by humans, elves, and the hybrid of the two races, half-elves. Virgil is under a monarchial government, run by the royal family of Sol'Eron. The upper and middle classes are more or less comprised of pureblood humans and elves. However, the half-elves, treated as outcasts and undesireables, make up most of the poor population of the city, denied opportunities and other such advantages, which often results in poverty. Groups of half-elves often band together in groups called guilds, who work, each in their own way, to try and give their fellow half elves a chance. The guilds are much like a very tight knit family, usually consisting of thirty at least, to one hundred or so at most. Each guild is different. Each runs itself its own way; each has its own entry test (or none at all), but a general rule is that any member of a guild (save one connected by family), must be able to care for his/herself; most importantly how to fight. Most of the landscape of Virgil consists of coastline and large, rolling fields and plains, dotted by several large lakes and of course the large ocean at the west border of the country.
Physical Description[Appearance]:
Sylph stands at about five feet and ten inches tall, and weighs in at about one-hundred and fifty six pounds, so relatively light for his age and height. Overall his build is rather slim, but, due to his elfen heritage, is actually a facade, hiding a great amount of speed and agility, as well as great dexterity with swords. While he has several distinctly elfin features, Sylph is obviously a half-elf, due to evident traits from his human heritage. In the case of his elfin traits, the first and most obvious are his ears he has the distinctly elfin ears, elongated, and curved in their appearance, tapering to the signature points. His eyes and nose too, betray his elfin heritage; his eyes being slightly angular, and large, almost innocent looking. His nose as well is small and more delicate looking, tapering, like his ears, to a sort of point. However, Sylph has several distinctly human features. While his chin still tapers to a point-like tip, similar to an elf's, it is more strongly defined, and somewhat more square than a normal elf, in addition, unlike an elf, his cheekbones are high, but not as defined as a normal elf's. This gives him an interesting appearance, and rather handsome at that. His hair is long, stopping at his waste, and is raven black. His eyes are a piercing very dark blue, like sapphire. The outfit that Sylph sports is practical. Good to travel in and well suited for the face paced, spur of the moment battles that he finds himself in so often. It consists of a black shirt, crossed on the chest with two light brown leather belts for holding extra equipment and items; each with a silver buckle, underneath a light gray jacket with a black band around one of the sleeves at the elbow, and the other at the top of the arm. The belt of the outfit is in fact a wrap, made of light brown material the same color as the belts. The lower portion of his outfit consists of a pair of raven black pants and a pair of light brown boots with silver buckles, toes and a light gray stripe down the middle of each. There is a white ankle wrapping over each one.
Ranking: Yellow
Personality:
All together, Sylph is an almost obsessively curious person with a quick temper and a wit to match, but with a kinder side that most find surprising. As previously noted, Sylph is extremely curious about almost everything that he does not know something or anything about. Once his curiosity is piqued, he will pursue an answer to the question relentlessly, regardless of danger or personal harm, until he has found out what it is that he wants to know. This gives him great determination, and so can be extremely useful, but it also leads to trouble, as Sylph will often put himself and others in danger in his pursuit of an answer. Sylph has a quick temper as well. He has a lot of trouble remaining calm around people or situations that annoy him, and so often reacts aggressively when faced with ignorant or foolish words and tense or irritating situations. He is a very intelligent person as well, and wise when he needs to be. Sylph possesses a level of intelligence that is uncommon among his race; for the most part this is because of the fact that his curiosity often leads him to new knowledge or information. He can also be quick with the quips and snappy retorts, but is also often eager to share what he knows with others. This is not arrogance; he just loves to spout information. Despite being quick tempered, Sylph has a knack for quickly understanding and accurately judging people and situations, and so, sometimes without even thinking, he will speak in a very wise way. Although Sylph may seem cynical, he does in fact have a kind, caring side; if hid very, very well. He actually does care about other people’s situations and problems, and will sometimes say something or do something sympathetic without thinking about it. However, when he does mean to, he often buries it in criticism or cynicism, which causes some people to write him off as cold. He hates to see people hurt, and will often put himself in danger to help someone in trouble.
When faced with confrontation or battle, Sylph’s attitude remains very much the same. Due to his usually overly aggressive attitude, Sylph has a slight problem when faced with tense or confrontational situations. If he is aggravated or feels that it is completely justified, he will often jump straight into a fight or confrontation (argument, etc.) with others. While this fire when it comes to confrontation can be good overall, it often places him in danger, as he will sometimes risk confrontation even if the situation is too dangerous for him. It’s not even so much that he enjoys fighting; he’s just really easy to tick off. Although he is very brash about starting fights or confrontation, his style in battle is more reminiscent of a wise fighter, save when he is fighting in rage. He is usually very strategic, picking his moves and actions in a way that reflects his experience and natural skill as a fighter. He is very quick on his feet, and takes advantage of that to launch a calm, strategic assault using quick strikes and his great agility to catch enemies off guard and throw them off balance, complemented by strong attack and special skills from his gunblades to deal damage and finish battles quickly. Although he possesses quite a bit of skill on the battlefield Sylph, in actuality, despises killing, and will often defeat or incapacitate an opponent, and then leave without finishing them off. While this is a noble trait, it also makes him dangerous enemies, since leaving without finishing someone is to damage their honor and pride; one fighting to regain their pride is a powerful thing, because in their mind they have nothing left to lose.
Were you to ask a purebred human or elf of their pursuits, you might receive such an answer as: fine food, the acquisition of material goods, or flaunting what power they have in whatever city they reside it. However, half-breeds, not possessing the riches and power that purebreds have, often pursue more noble or simple past times, and Sylph is no exception. Besides the pursuit and acquisition of knowledge, he occupies his time with activities, of which is rather unusual; good, but unusual. He loves to collect gem stones. From precious to common, Sylph has accrued a massive collection of crystals and gems on his travels, which he polishes and puts into a case which he carries with him everywhere. He loves to admire and look at them, and can often be seen carrying one of his stones, looking through it (if possible) like an eyeglass or lens. Sylph also enjoys reading. He loves to read books wherever he can find them, though he does not have a very large collection himself. When he is not spending time with friends or training he can be found up in his room, curled up and reading a book. While reading, he hates to be disturbed, and often becomes snappy if this occurs. He enjoys spending time with those who’ll tolerate him, much preferring the company of others to being alone. He enjoys training as well, with the conviction that one day he will become strong enough to return to Virgil and stop the injustice against half-breeds there. Finally, he also really enjoys taking on missions, as he loves having a challenge or a goal to work towards. He dislikes seeing people mistreated or made fun of. Growing up in Virgil’s capital, Seraphim, he experienced terrible cruelties and taunting, and saw other half-breeds go through them as well via the purebreds in the city. Mistreatment is one of the things that really sets him off, and is also one of the things that will cause him to attack someone out of rage. He also hates to see people hurt, particularly when he can not do anything about it. He does not dislike them per say, but is very wary of ruins and the like, having learned, through books and personal experience, that they can be very dangerous. He absolutely hates to enter a situation without knowing at least something about what he is getting into, although his temper sometimes leads him to do just that. Finally, he dislikes people who he feels talk too much, or won’t let him get a word in edge-wise

History/Background Story:
Roughly 19 years ago, Sylph was found abandoned in the central capital of Virgil, a huge city by the name of Seraphim. While one might expect that a capital would be much better in terms of living conditions, the truth of the matter was that most of the hatred and prejudice against half-elves was routed in that “shining” city. Sylph had no birth parents that he could remember or knew, and so was adopted by a pair of half-elves, Astor and Selena Estrahl, who had been unable to have children on their own. As a half-elf, he grew up in the poorer section of the city; a large, dirty section of the city once used as a huge plaza by the nobles, but was given up so that the half-elves might at the very least have somewhere to stay. Growing up, Sylph was witness to horrible atrocities, committed both against himself and his fellow half-elves. He saw and experienced painful beatings and cutting comments and taunting; he was helpless but to watch as men and women were dragged from their homes, tortured, beaten and robbed of what little they had. His foster parents, who were strong activists for the half-elves, saw this discrimination raise to all time high, and were profoundly frustrated and angered by what they saw. Secretly, they began to congregate with some of their fellow half-elves, even going as far as to plan an assault on the upper class part of the city. This planning started around Sylph’s fifth year of life and went on for about five years, before tragedy yet again struck Sylph. He was now ten years of age, and certainly old enough to understand what were happening to he and his kind. He had learned of the guilds, and he dreamt of one day joining them. Little did he know that he would soon get his wish. One night, he and his parents were home, relaxing. Somehow the nobles in the upper city had gotten wind of their plans, and several of the royal guards broke into their homes, demanding to search for weapons. Sylph was in his room playing when he heard the crash. Immediately he took shelter under his simple bed and stayed absolutely quiet, as his “parents” had taught him. They resisted the search with tooth and nail, his father even throwing a blow at one of the guards. For this, they were deemed guilty of treason and executed on the spot, with Sylph helpless only a room away. He grieved for his parents, and as soon as the guards were gone, he emerged from his room and buried both his parents all on his own. His mind was set. He would do something about the insipid poison of hate that permeated Virgil; he swore to hunt down and kill the man who had given his parents away. [/size]
He got his hands on a pair of training swords, thrown out by some noble in the city, and began training. He was determined to become stronger, and for the next four years he kept a tight regimen. By day he would investigate the lower section of the city, looking for leads on the traitor, and by night he would train relentlessly. However, after four years had passed and he still hadn’t gotten any closer, he gave up. Soon after this he was taken in by a guild by the name of Stirae. He had finally found a family again. For the next four years he worked with the guild, completing missions and working to help the half-elves have a better life. At the age of 18, he was given a particularly important mission. He was to sneak into a manor in the upper city, allegedly the home of a spy for the nobles, and to locate and report back on any information that the nobles had on them, as well as anything they might be planning against the guilds. While searching the manor, Sylph came upon a large chapel like room. At the back, mounted on a white marble pedestal, was a pair of twin gunblades, elegant and deadly in their design. He stole them, buckling them onto his back and at his side. He eventually came the operations room that the spy worked out of. After rifling through the information, he had found nothing, and was just about to leave when his eyes caught site of a small journal open to a page; on it he recognized the name “Estrahl”. There were pictures, pictures of the inside of his house, he and his parents, several meetings. He felt rage burning in him, and was just about to turn and find the noble responsible when he felt a sword tip in the back of his neck. In a rage he spun, drawing the gunblades. He swung hard upwards with one, shattering the noble’s blade in half, and with the other he ran the man through his heart, speaking only one word to the man: “Redemption.” The next day he picked up and, with a goodbye to his friends in the guild, left his life behind, his only mementos the gunblades strapped across his back and at his side. He began traveling east of Virgil, hoping to escape the rotten country and become stronger, so that one day he could return and liberate the country. After about a month’s traveling, filled with too many close calls and adventures to count, he emerged just in a city only a few miles from the academy of Sentou Gakuin. It wasn’t very long before he caught wind of the academy and left for it, vowing to become a student, a master of the gunblades, and one day return to Virgil to bring justice for his race.
