Appearance:

Ryuk has a gruesome appearance. He stands at about 7 feet tall and is a dark shade of blue including his spikey hair. Ryuk has large yellow eyes that seem to pierce through anyone staring at him. He also long arms with claws. On his chest and close to his neck, he has dark blue hair that covers his body. Ryuk is always grinning and takes amusement at the outcome of other's situation. On the bottom of Ryuk's body is a chain and a belt which both have skulls on them.

Creature Abilities:

-"The owner of the note can recognize the image and voice of its origianl owner, i.e. a god of death.": This ability allows only the holder of the Death Note, in this case Light, to be the only person that can see and hear Ryuk. Also, as long as Light is the owner of the note, Light will always know whether Ryuk is speaking or what he looks like. Because of this, only those who have touched the Death Note can see Ryuk or hear him.

-"A god of death cannot be killed even if stabbed
in his heart with a knife or shot in the head with a gun. However,
there are ways to kill a god of death, which are not generally known to
the gods of death.": This ability allows Ryuk to live on because he is a God of Death. This is fair because Ryuk is incapable of harming another since he doesn't hold the Death Note and cannot physically touch anyone other than the holder of the note.

-"The god of death must not tell humans the names
of lifespans on individuals he sees. This is to avoid confusion in the
human world.": This is a great technique that Ryuk holds and can be used as a precaution just in case another person somehow manages to get control over Ryuk and the Death Note. Ryuk, being a shinigami, cannot simply tell the names or lifespan of the people he looks at to the user. By no means is he capable of saying anything to hint towards it either meaning that he cannot help the controller of the note.
