Name: Spellweaver
Appearance: Tristan's magical staff is a fairly simple weapon, created in the tradition of every mage in The Sunderlands. The staff itself is made of magically shaped wood, taken from the twisted oak, unique to The Sunderlands. It is a fusion of light and dark brown coloration, and is about four and a half feet long from the bottom to the tip of the claw that holds the staff's head. The staff itself is wrapped in black cloth, and inscribed with symbols, spelling out the magician's name, rank, and the date that their first year in the academy came to an end. The head of the staff is an orb, about four and a half inches across. it is a bright, sky blue, with a deep brown core, and glows with an inner light.
Effects: The staff's purpose is what the purpose of a staff has always been for a mage, being to augment the power of the mage's spells. As long as Tristan is holding the staff when he casts a spell, the mana stone in the head of the staff will increase his spell power, upping the attack damage of his spells by 10 points, or causing any sustained spell cast by him to last one turn longer than normal.

History: At the end of his first year in the academy, each mage is sent into the mountains surrounding The Sunderlands, to perform two special tasks. First, he is sent to a large cave in the mountains, which contains a huge deposit of raw mana stone. Using only his magic, the mage is required to cut out a piece of adequate size and return it to the academy in the center of the valley. Then, he is sent to the far east edge of the valley, where the twisted oak grows. From there, using only his magic, he must cut a piece of the wood from the tree and return it to the academy. The head mages of the academy then meet with the student and teach him or her how to cast the spells required to shape the wood and the mana stone, and the method for casting their staff head. The student is given two weeks to practice and master the spells, before he is brought before the Council of Seven. There, he or she must form the staff before the council, shaping the wood into a staff and the mana stone in the appropriate size and shape. He then casts it, pouring some of his magical energy into the stone. The orb then takes on the color of the mage's primary and secondary elements. He or she then puts the orb and staff together, and binds them with the final spell. If he or she does this successfully, they become a fully fledged mage. The entire process, from collection to creation, takes about four weeks, with the creation process taking almost half of a day.
